Name of group

Hi

our women's group has been called Christian Viewpoint for women for last few years and wondering about changing it? Obviously Activate is one name we're considering but was wondering what other groups are called?

Activate Women - tell us about yourselves please...

As a network we exist because of you! We are not about imparting expert advice from a top heavy structure: we want to know more about and facilitate better sharing between you, the supporter and others round the country like you. We'd like to hear this month from those whose faith journey began through Activate.

Avatar A Film Review

Warning: this review contains a ‘spoiler’ in other words reading it might tell you something about the end of the film but as the end of the film was about as predictable as the credits there isn’t much to spoil!

Okay I admit it! Whenever a film comes out with loads of hype it makes me hyper-critical so the following review maybe somewhat more savage than you feel the film deserved but I went along expecting to be impressed and was underwhelmed by everything except the graphics.

Ask Alison January 2010

Why not make 2010 the one to fall in love again? So many marriages break down because couples believe they will only feel in love for the first few years, if that.

I Hold Up My Life to You Now

Patient God,
the clock struck midnight and I partied with a strange sadness in my heart,
confusion in my mind.

Now, I ask you to gather me,
for I realise the storms of time have scattered me,
the furies of the year past have driven me,
many sorrows have scarred me,
many accomplishments have disappointed me,
much activity has wearied me,
and fear has spooked me into a hundred hiding places,
one of which is pretended gaiety.

I'm sick of a string of "nice days."
What I want is passionate days,
wondrous days,
dangerous days,
blessed days,
surprising days.

Write a letter to yourself at 16?

What would you write if you were invited to write a letter to yourself at the sweet age of 16? Would you go for the 'change your life, make different choices and change history'? Or would you want to reassure and reassure the tentative teenager? Activate supporter Faye Smith was asked by her local Sheffield newspaper to write her thoughts and this is the process she went through -

: "Writing the letter was an amazingly powerful exercise.

"It provoked a lot of soul-searching.

Ask Alison November 2009

Today the government announced that they want to teach school children, from the age of five, how to prevent abusive relationships. Some of you might find this a little alarming.

The statistics on domestic violence may surprise you:

1 in 4 women will suffer from domestic violence at some point in their lives. (British Crime Survey 1998)

Two women a week are killed by their partners/ex partners

Each year 45% of female homicide victims are killed by present or former partners. (British Crime Survey 1996)

A prayer - Walk with me Jesus

Prayer

Jesus I pray that you will walk with me
Along my Pilgrim journey

When I grow weary Lord
Comfort me with your Holy Spirit

In my trials Lord, walk with me
When the shades of life are falling

In my sorrows and joys, Lord walk with me
As I place my soul in your hands

Give me grace to serve you Jesus
As I walk towards eternity.

Amen

Enterprising Women

This is Global Enterprise week and Wednesday is Women's Enterprise Day. There's never been a better time for women to start up small businesses and your local business link can give you lots of free advice.

But the other big advantage is that you can join networks - there are masses of them out there - and share your interests with loads of like-minded women. You can even look at setting up a Community project or Social enterprise.

It's a whole new pond to fish in so get networking and making friends in the process

Change - a personal reflection

In the last month I have changed my job, changed my mobile phone, changed my internet account and changed my working hours. In the same month our youngest child went to University so the house feels radically changed. Our shopping list is completely altered, the amount of washing and ironing has radically reduced and the house is so quiet. Matt is a piano playing, sofa-surfing, fridge emptying 19 year old so you know when he’s around!
